Michael Raedecker (born 1963) is a Dutch artist currently living and working in London. Raedecker was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He studied at the ''Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten'', Amsterdam (1993–1994), and at Goldsmiths College, London (1996–1997.) In 2000, Raedecker was shortlisted for the prestigious Turner Prize. ==Work== Drawing upon the historical importance traditionally invested within painting, Raedecker presents a thoroughly contemporary approach to his chosen medium. Whilst traces of a Dutch mastery for still-life can be found within his works, Raedecker juxtaposes this graceful aesthetic with a more physical process of stitching, cutting and embroidery. Primarily working with a monochromatic palette, Raedecker’s focus on the melancholia of modern life – with paintings of despoiled architecture and empty spaces – are both unsettling and enigmatic. He influenced by expressionism. Recent solo exhibitions include "line-up", which opened at Camden Arts Centre, London, England (2009) and travelled to Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, The Hague, Netherlands, (2009) Carré d'Art, Nîmes (2010). Other solo exhibitions include "fix", Andrea Rosen, New York (2009); Hauser & Wirth, London (2007); "show" at Hauser & Wirth, Zürich (2005) and "Forevernevermore", Salzburger Kunstverein, Salzburg, Austria (2004).
